According to the teachings of Buddha, taking care of parents is a virtuous act, as parents do many things for their children from the very moment of birth with great love and endless compassion.
They raise their children with great care and love. Parents have four great qualities- Metta (loving-kindness), Karuna (compassion), Mudita (sympathetic joy), and Upekha (equanimity) for their children. These four categories are called the Brahma-vihara, the sublime stage" or the divine abode; it is also called the 4 "infinite state" (appamanna).
Therefore, Lord Buddha compares the parents with Brahma i.e. the deities (celestial beings) who are always endowed with these four great qualities. Parents not only take care of their children but are also their first teachers (pubacariyas) as they teach their children the right things like language, behavior, and right action.
Children born in a civilized society must repay the great debts of gratitude towards their parents. That's why Buddha said, supporting parents is one of the highest blessings.
Although we cannot compare the compassion of parents to that of Lord Buddha (because Buddha's compassion extends to all beings), the compassion of parents towards their children is also incomparable. But they do not feel the same love for others.
Whatever troubles are brought upon them by their children, the parents bear them, bear them and forget them.
We cannot find anyone in this
world whose compassion and affection are greater than that of our parents. If we
compare the gratitude that we should feel towards our parents with Mount Meru,
the mountain would be very small. Parents are wonderful creatures to children
because of their boundless compassion. That's why we should have sympathy for
them. And at the same time, we should sympathize with them before they die.
